“A Hop is Up” with Easy Follow-Along Actions

;lkj

A Hop is Up by Kristy Dempsey and Lori Richmond

Children are wiggly, especially toddlers.  It is just a fact of life.  No one knows for sure why.  Maybe its their strong sense of curiosity, maybe its their ginormous excitement for life, heck, maybe it is the sugar consumption after all!  Either way, they just are.  This is a book perfect for that.

It follows a young boy on a walk with his puppy through his community.  Not only is the story super simple, but the text is sparse and simple as well.  Each two page spread basically features an action such as hopping, bending, marching, running, etc..  Which makes the Beyond the Book activity for this book pretty much self explanatory.  How fun would it be to have your child stand up while you read it aloud and perform the actions along with the book?

That’s it!  Easy-peasy!  Perfect for getting out the wiggles!  I would recommend this book to be your first read-aloud if you are doing circle-time read aloud with a group of kids.  Or even just as your first book before reading other bedtime stories.  Used this way, it can help wiggly, energetic children to get out some last wiggles before settling down.

The illustrations are quite adorable as well.  They are bright and clean and definitely appealing to younger children.  All-around I would definitely say this one is a win!
