A Year in Picture Books

Welcome to “a year in picture books!” In our home we have a small room that we have turned into our home library. This room is dedicated to our books and is a cozy place for us to read together. In addition to our more traditional bookshelves in this room we also have three, long, outward facing shelves that we call our “feature shelves”. Every month we switch them out with different groups of books based on different themes. Below are our lists of favorite books to read for each month of the year taking seasons, holidays and our lives throughout the year into account.

We love reading books that are applicable to our life at the moment because then we can build connections with them and relate with them in deeper ways. It also feels like a celebration of the present for where we are at in life at the moment or what we are looking forward to. My kids always get excited to see holiday books appear on the feature shelves for upcoming holidays and we enjoy time spent reading them in anticipation for festivities to come.
