All My Animals

fullsizerender

“All My Animals” by Dawid Ryski and Lauren Napier

This oversized wonder just hit the shelves this month and we couldn’t be happier.  It is an absolute win from the size, to the cover, to the illustrations, to the text.  My little guy was grinning ear to ear when I first introduced it to him, and I must say that I couldn’t help smiling along.  I wish this book had been around when I was a kid because I’m pretty confident I would have been smitten even then.

The format of this book is pretty straightforward.  Each page spread (of all 48 pages!) highlights a different animal with a short introductory poem about them.  The illustrations are bright and bold with a “retro circus” feel to them which is wholly fitting.  The poems paired with each one are quirky, proper, unexpected and utterly delightful!  You get a “taste” for the personality of each animal and they are quite the characters and likable in everyway.  I even adore the fact that each little animal has a name.  It makes them so much more personable and memorable.

In short, everything about this seems to be understated and overstated all at the same time in a fantastic way and is most definitely one to look-up.
