Bigfoot Does NOT Like Birthday Parties

“Bigfoot Does NOT Like Birthday Parties” by Eric Ode and Jamie Temairik

This title on the cover immediately intrigued me.  I am currently loving all of the bigfoot and yeti books that are coming out right now and I just had to know why bigfoot didn’t like birthday parties.  I mean, c’mon, who doesn’t love a good birthday party?!  Cake, ice cream, friends, food, games, fun, presents, what’s not to love?

Well, this story is about the town of Mossy Pockets and it opens with them getting ready to throw a birthday party for bigfoot, who apparently doesn’t like birthday parties.  It is a lot of fun to see all the townspeople gather together and parade to the top of the hill where chaos ensues as a big silly mess is started by a tiny innocent fly.  At this climax we find out the truth about Bigfoot and how he really feels about birthday parties.

I can see this book being adored for a long time.  The drama builds up to a great climax and the surprise ending will have kiddos grinning from ear to ear.  Plus, throughout the book as the party is being prepared, and later when it is a total mess, you can spot Bigfoot “hiding” in the page spreads.  That alone is quite comical as he is ginormous, bright blue and hard to miss.
