Bunny Slopes

“Bunny Slopes” by Claudia Rueda

Is anyone else a huge fan of interactive books?  We are!  I think a large part of our fascination with them has to do with the fact that my toddler is an incredibly wiggly little fellow.  He loves it when books invite him to blow, turn, touch, and get involved.  I think he is also intrigued by the fact that the illustrations and text show that his actions are having a “real” affect on the story.  So fun!  This new interactive book by Claudia is one of the the best I have seen.  It is so wonderful that after his first time reading it with me my toddler exclaimed “Again! Again!”.  Therefore, we have already read it again and again.

It is a pretty simple concept.  The main character is a bunny that would like some help from you, the reader, in his skiing adventures.  He invites you to shake the book to create enough snow for skiing and then tilt the book to create the slope.  The excitement continues with more involvement from you and the antics of the bunny.  In the end he slides through a hole in a page and it is a fun surpass for the reader when you discover that it was the entrance to his burrow and home.

The illustrations are light and airy and the expressions on the little bunny are so cute.  There is also a stuffed version of the bunny that you can purchase here at Merry Makers which makes an adorable companion (especially for gifting)  and a Beyond the Book activity printable of a “Bunny Slopes Flip Book” that you can print here at Chronicle Books Website .  It is another fun way to make the book “come alive” and see our little bunny friend in action skiing.  Enjoy!
