“The Duckling Gets a Cookie!?” by Mo Willems

This is one of the most read books in our home. Hands-down, no-dispute-about-it. We adore it and I can explain why with two words: pigeon and cookie. We are obsessed with Mo Willems entire Pigeon series and we love this books just as much as we love our chocolate chip cookies.

This book is a hilarious combination of the two. In the story duckling gets a chocolate chip cookie with nuts by asking politely and when the pigeon finds out he begins to rant and rave about how unfair it is because he asks for things all the time and doesn’t get them. It has such a fun resolution that is sure to make you smile even more and beg for a reread. It just can’t get any better!

Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies

Well, as I mentioned above, we are quite the “cookie fans” over here so of course I had to adapt our “Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie” recipe to make some cookies that would pair wonderfully with this story. And, because pecans are my favorite dessert nut, I had to go with pecans. To say that I am pleased with how these cookies turned out is an understatement. I’m quite obsessed. I even sang their praises as I consumed them. Okay, not quite that obsessed, but I sure to love them. Also, based on how quickly they disappeared I think it’s safe to say that my husband and children love them too.

Paired together these cookies and book make for a special story time that is both entertaining and yummy. What more could you want in life? Give them a try and see if you are bewitched by them as much as we are.
