Dia De Los Muertos

Dia De Los Muertos by Roseanne Greenfield Thong and Carles Ballesteros

Happy Dia De Los Muertos everyone!  Now, I’ll be honest, I have never participated in a real Dia De Los Muertos celebration, just the ones in my spanish classes in middle school and high school.  Don’t get me wrong, those were fun, but mainly they just wet my curiosity on what the “real” thing looks like.  It’s on my bucket list to head to Mexico someday and participate in authentic celebrations.  I’ll bet they are wonderful! I love a good party!

In the meantime, this book will have to do with helping my kiddos and I get a “taste” of the celebrations.  It really is fantastic.  The illustrations are gorgeous and done in a style that most suits the topic.  Each page truly looks like a party and makes me want to hop in and join along.  The bright colors, confetti, and delicious details are stunning.

The text takes you through a day of traditional Dia De Los Muertos celebrations and includes many spanish words that are italizaed as it does so and I find that particularly great.  Don’t worry, if you get stuck on a spanish word or two there is a handy glossary in the back.  There you can also find a brief informative write up the holiday.  This book really is quite educational as well as incredibly fun and beautiful.  Check it out!
