DIY Nature Walk Collection Bags Inspired by “Tiny, Perfect Things”

“Tiny, Perfect Things” by M. H. Clark and Madeline Kloepper

This is the sweetest book ever!  It follows a little girl and her grandfather as they go on a walk outside together.  Along they way they stop to appreciate many different “tiny, perfect things” such as an intricately spun spider’s web.  Two things really stood out to me the most when I first read this book.  They are: the relationship between the grandfather and his granddaughter and the appreciation for little treasures of nature.  The relationship between the grandfather and his granddaughter is incredibly sweet, patient and loving.  The appreciation for nature is done in a soft and stunning way through text and illustrations.  Both themes are two that I cherish and are done so wonderfully that I cannot help but adore this book!

Also, can we just take a minute to appreciate the illustrations?  They are gorgeous!  In addition to their soft lines and pleasing colors the expressions on the characters are precious.  Plus, this book features a page spread that folds-out into a panorama illustration for kids to look through and find “tiny, perfect things” within.  Love it!!!

DIY Nature Walk Bags for “Tiny, Perfect Things”

One of my favorite things to do with my kids is going on walks and one of my very favorite things about those walks is how both of my small children collect little nature treasures along the way.  It never fails to make me smile when I see them clutching their little pinecones, smooth stones and dandelions.  It is just the sweetest.  I think that is one of the many reasons that this book resonates so much with me.  Because of that I really wanted to create a “beyond the book” activity to go along with this book and it didn’t take me more than a moment to come up with the idea of “tiny, perfect thing” bags.

I created a printable (free for personal and educational use below) that you can print off, cut out, and glue onto a standard brown lunch sack.  Then you can take it with you when you go on nature walks with your kids.  That way you will have something to hold all the little treasures that you find along the way.  I am so excited to take ours out with us this summer and look forward to the squeals of delight from my kids as they discover new little treasures and get to put a few in their bags.
