Dr Seuss “Wocket in Pocket” Inspired Craft

“There’s a Wocket in my Pocket!” by Dr. Seuss

One of our favorite things about Dr. Suess is his his ginormous imagination and the silly and fun   imaginary creatures that he creates.  Each one is completly unique and their wonky names and characteristics make them so endearing.  This book in particular is one of our favorites when it comes to his made-up friends.

It tells of a little boy who lives in a house full of these fictional delights including everything from “Wockets in pockets” to “Zellars in the cellar”.  With Suess’ famous rhymes and playful illustrations this book is a definite winner in our house.

Wocket Inspired Craft

Because this is  one of our favorite Suess books, and because Dr. Suess Day is around the corner, we couldn’t resist making some “wockets” of our own to carry around in our pockets.  My children were absolutely delighted with the results and my littlest especially is currently obsessed with carrying her’s around.  It’s so fun!  And the best part (other than how adorable and pocket-carry-able they are) is how easy they are to make!

Supplies and Process:

  1. Supplies: colored craft sticks (we got the Jumbo ones like THESE ), colored feathers like THESE , wiggly eyes, a black marker, scissors and glue.
  2. Cut a couple orange feathers in half and glue them to the top of a green craft stick to create hair.  Then, if you want a wocket that looks more like the one in the book, use the illustrations for guidance and draw a face on your socket.
  3. Another fun way to make these wickets (and probably my kids favorite way) is to use wiggly eyes and draw on a smile.
  4. Of course, if you want to have fun with other color combos go for it!  My little girl wanted a blue and pink wocket so we made her wocket dreams come true.  Have fun with it!

These wockets are the perfect size for carrying around in your pocket and would make a fun craft or even fun party favors when made in advance.  Besides, doesn’t everyone need a little “wocket in their pocket”?!

If you give this Beyond the Book activity a try I’d love to hear how it goes! Share it on Instagram and tag me! (I’m on Instagram as @book.nerd.mommy) or even just comment here with your thoughts. It would make my day! Or to simply save for later pin the image below.
