Flower Petal Fairy Stew Inspired by “A Fairy Friend”

“A Fairy Friend” by Sue Fliess and Claire Keane

This book is positively delightful!  It is all about a little girl who is out on a quest to find a fairy friend or two.  In her efforts she cooks them some flower petal stew, makes a fairy home complete with walnut shell swings and waits patiently.  In the end all her wildest dreams come true and she makes some little friends that are pretty much the cutest.

The text in this story is fluid and absolutely beautiful.  I love the rhythm it creates and the magical feel of it.  The illustrations couldn’t be any more darling and there are a few of them that I would love to frame and hang in my daughter’s room.  Definitely a delightful book worth looking up.

DIY Flower Petal Fairy Stew

As mentioned, one of the little girls efforts to make a fairy friend is to “cook a flower petal stew”.  After she cooks the stew she places it in a tea cup and leaves it on the porch of the fairy home that she created.  Later in the illustrations you can see the fairies enjoying it and you know that it was a big hit.

I love the idea of adding a little flower petal stew to fairy homes to entice fairies to stop by.  That is why I thought it would be so much fun to create a “flower petal fairy stew” of our own.  We used water as a base and then added random flowers and leaves that we found.  To finish things off with a little magic we added a good amount of blue and gold glitter.   We thought that it added just the right sparkly touch.  Mix it all up and you are good to go!

***This is obviously a “stew” that is in no way meant to be consumed.  It is just a fanciful concoction to imagine and dream with.  You may want to make sure that is clear to your little fairy fans.

**Bonus points if you put it in an old teacup and place it in a home you built for some fairy friends.
