Honey Orange Blossom Cupcakes

I have been wanting to make a recipe for this flavor combo for a while now and I am so excited to finally share them with you!  They taste so light and sweet and it doesn’t hurt that they are adorable too!  I love my little cupcake “swarm”!

title

I usually never use pre-made cupcake toppers but I  ran across these sugar bees in the wedding isle of my Walmart and fell in love.  Aren’t they just the cutest!  Chances are your Walmart has them, or if you are good with sugar work you can make some, or you can top your cupcakes with gummy orange slices, or you can even top them with some extra orange zest.  The options are endless!

True to form, I used a cupcake mix as the base for these cupcakes.  Therefore they are super easy and fast to make.  First you preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit. Then, in a large bowl you mix together cake mix, whole milk, eggs, vegetable oil, sour cream and honey.   Afterwards scoop your batter into cupcake liners about 2/3 full and bake for 14-16 minutes until toothpick comes up clean from the center.
After cupcakes have cooled comes the most delectable frosting.

For the frosting you cream together the butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy. (Take your time beating.) Then add the orange zest and juice and gradually mix in the powdered sugar until desired consistency.  Lastly you pipe or spread frosting on cupcakes and garnish with sugar bees, more orange zest, or whatever you wish.  Serously though, I am absolutely in love with these!  I may have to make them at least once every summer for the rest of my life! The tangy sweetness of the orange plays beautifully with the honey cakes.
