Illuminature

“Illuminature: Discover 180 animals with your 3 color lense” by Rachel Williams and Carnovsky

Do you remember when books that used a “lens” or “spyglass” to see red and blue sketch illustrations were popular when we were kids?  I do and my favorite was the “Where’s Waldo” version hands-down.  Well, they seem to be making a revival and I couldn’t be happier.  Plus I swear the effect is much improved over when I was a kid and it is all so much cooler.  Like this book for example.  It has a strip with three different lenses which allow you to see three different illustrations on the same page. (The strip comes with the book and is neatly tucked away in it’s own little pocket in the front.)

This book is divided into different habitat spreads and each habitat has different plants and animals that are indigenous to that area just waiting to be discovered.  That is where the super cool tri-color lens comes into play.  One is used to view the nighttime wildlife, one is for the foliage, and the last one is for the daytime wildlife.  The images are crystal clear in each lens and the effect really is almost magical.  In fact, my little guy calls it the magic book with the glasses.  A fitting name for  a fabulous book.
