Little Women

Mom and Me Pairing of “Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott

Little Women is one of those stories that feels like “an old friend to me”.  I read it for the first time when I was very young and grew up with the story.  I am also a fan of the movie version (*gasp* Is that okay for a Book Nerd to confess?) and adore the March Sisters in every way.  I’m sure we would have been great friends, you know, if they existed and if I had been born much earlier.  I don’t know why, but I also always associate it with winter and the christmas season.  Maybe its the iconic Christmas scenes in the book, or probably just the way it makes me feel.  I am so excited to re-read this story again this year and to introduce it in baby primer form to my little gal.  Both of these editions are absolutely beautiful and editions that make great keepsakes.

Mom’s Edition from Folio Society- Introduced by Jane Gardam and Illustrated by Rebecca Green

This edition is stunning.  It is bound in beautiful buckram and includes nine eye-catching illustrations.  I love Rebecca Green’s modern twist in her work and the scenes that they chose to illustrate.  They really help the story “come alive”.  Also, the quality of the book in general is everything you would expect from Folio.  The pages, endpapers, and font are all wonderful and make a great tribute to such a treasured story. I am absolutely in love with it!

Baby’s Edition from BabyLit- by Jennifer Adams and art by Alison Oliver

This board book edition of “Little Women” is everything you would want it to be and more for introducing the story to your child.  This version is done as a “playtime primer” in that each page spread features a different activity that occurs in the book such as writing, playing music, and my personal favorite, picnicking.  Each hobby is accompanied with a short quote taken directly from the text of “Little Women” and paired with modern illustrations that are purely delightful.  This is one of the newest books from Baby Lit and it doesn’t disappoint!
