Night Sky Watcher

Night Sky Watcher: Your Guide to the Stars and Planets by Raman Prinja

Don’t these warm summer nights just make you want to stay outside and stargaze?  Ever since I was young I have been fascinated with the stars and astronomy.  I think we all are, even if just in a very small way.  How could you look at a clear night sky with all those twinkling beauties and not feel  just a twinge of wonder, a bit of awe, or even just that nudging feeling that there is so much to explore and discover?   Sometimes I don’t even notice the stars, then sometimes I am engulfed in the wonder of it all.

This book is perfect for budding astronomers to anyone who just wants to enjoy learning a bit more about the universe around us.  For me personally, it makes me want to pull out my favorite boots, a flashlight, a thermos of hot chocolate (yes, even in the summer!) a blanket, and go stargazing.  This book opens with some basic star gazing tips and background knowledge that I find useful.  It is great at prepping for my favorite part of this book, which is the “Star Hopping” section.  This section will help you find a constellation then, using a star in that constellation, it will help you find another one.  On and on it continues as it guides you through stars and constellations in the night sky.  The last three sections are information on the moon, plants, and other spectacular sights in the sky.

I love how beautiful and clean the images are in this book.  It is packed with information, yet it is done in bite-sized pieces that don’t feel too overwhelming.  I also love the organization of the book in general, it makes it easy to utilize as you see fit.  Either with a stargazing experience, or just a bit of informational reading.  It really is a gem!
