Our Favorite Picture Books for September: Autumn, School, Anti-Bulllying & Inclusion

September is an exciting time of year. It is the beginning of my favorite Season (Autumn) and all our favorite Holidays are right around the corner. It is also a time of year where school is generally just barely in full swing and the whole school year stretches out before children. With these points in mind I had a lot of curating this list of our favorite books for September.

With the start of Autumn I had to include some favorite Fall and Fall-is books so those are the ones first on the list. Following are books about school. I tried to include some playful titles that would be fun to read and even included a more serious one about the many different ways there are to be smart. (We want to keep our children encouraged this school year and celebrating their successes instead of feeling discouraged if they don’t fit the “classic definition” of “smart”.)

Lastly, I included books about inclusion and anti bullying. With the school year started it is possible that bullying has already started and I think it is an important time to make sure we are teaching our children how to identify and deal with bullies. Also, by now children have no doubt learned more about the differences they see in their classmates. This makes it an opportune time to remind them that diversity is what makes us beautiful and that inclusion and kindness are always the right way to go.

Each of these books is one that is loved by us for it’s own unique qualities and all that it has to offer. We hope that you enjoy them as well.
