Patrick Hruby Books and Memory Game

“Counting in the Garden” by Emily Hruby and Patrick Hruby & “ABC is for Circus” by Patrick Hruby

Patrick Hruby’s style has definite flair and is the type of work that stands out in a sea of books and products.  I love his modern illustrations and the neon vivid colors are eye popping when paired with his clean lines and symmetrical patterns.  “Counting in the Garden”  and “ABC is for Circus” are two books that he illustrated (and one that he authored) that are definitely stunning enough to capture and hold any child’s attention.

“Counting in the Garden” is a numbers primer where the illustrations start with one item in the garden and build up to ten.  With each new set of items that are added the garden/illustrations become more and more crowded and full creating a feast for the eyes.

“ABC if for Circus” is an alphabet primer where each letter of the alphabet is paired with a circus element or performer that starts with that letter.  I also find the circus theme to really play Hruby’s artistic strengths well with all the color he gets to use and the beautiful patterns found in abidance.

Patrick Hruby Memory Game

I was really excited when I discovered that Patrick Hruby had designed a memory game.  My older toddler is the perfect age for Memory and he absolutely loves it.  That begin said, I get roped into playing it quite a bit.  However, with a version as beautiful as this one I don’t mind at all!  (Plus with a total of 36 matching pairs it is a memory game large enough to challenge even the most clever of adults.)

All the cards in this set are circus themed and the bright illustrations are captivating and interesting enough to really make the game fun.  I love how sturdy the set is and how thick the cards are.  They really feel like they will hold-up to many uses with little hands.  My little guy loves the pictures and in addition to playing Memory with this set he simply likes carefully observing the illustrations and searching through all the tiles to match up the pairs.  Therefore, there are two wonderful ways that we use this set and I couldn’t be happier with the fun he is having and the essential skills he is practicing.
