Picture Books that Feature Fathers

Looking for a book that features fathers for a fathers day gift or simply to celebrate a special dad in your life? This list has some of our favorite picture books that feature fathers.

Below you will find a list of some picture books that celebrate fathers.  I love how many beautiful books there are about a child’s relationship with their mother or their father.  The bond between a parent and child is so incredibly special and I love books that foster appreciation for parents as well as simply giving you those “father to child”/”mother to child” warm fuzzes of nostalgia and sweetness.  These books are ones that focus on how amazing fathers are and celebrate all that they do and all the love they give.  Here’s to great dads everywhere!

“Papasaurus” by Stephan Lomp- Babysaurus enjoys playing with his father and this book follows a game between them of hide and seek.  On top of that, the neon colored illustrations set across stark black backgrounds are stunning.

“Daddy Long Legs” by Nadine Brun-Cosme and Aurelie Guillerey- In this story a small child is anxious when they are dropped off at school and ask their father what would happen if he couldn’t come to pick them up.  This father lovingly reassures his child that nothing can keep him away and that he will always be there.  It is written in a playful format sure to have you smiling.

“It’s Great Being a Dad” by Dan Bar-el and Gina Perry-  This is such a creative book!  It follows a game of make believe between a father and some children as they pretend to be different magical creatures.  IT celebrates the fun role that fathers can play and all the joy that is spent with them.

“My Daddy Rules the World: Poems about Dads” by Hope Anita Smith-  This book is full of poems that feature the many different aspects of fatherhood from always loving you no matter what to teaching you how to ride a bike.  I love the diversity that is represented in this book and I love the serious, nostalgic feel.

“Daddies Are Awesome” by Meridith Costain and Polona Lovsin-  Dogs, dogs, dogs!  This board book about fathers is perfect for all the puppy and daddy obsessed toddlers and babies out there.  Seriously, so cute and such fun.

“You and Me, Me and You” by Miguel Tanco- This book focuses on the relationship between a child and father by highlighting all the things that fathers learn from their children.  Such as how to slow down and how to celebrate the little things.  Such a darling book and a perfect reminder of what’s important.

“Daddy Dreams” by Anne Gutman and Georg Hallensleben- Another sweet board book for tiny bookworms that talks about different dads in the animal kingdom.  Because who doesn’t love illustraiotns of cute baby animals and their parents?

“With My Daddy: A Book of Love and Family” by Jo Witek and Christine Roussey- Jo and Christine have done it again!  This is a precious book that celebrates a little girl’s relationship with her father and the many dimensions it has.  It is such a charming tribute to all father’s everywhere.

“Hooked” by Tommy Greenwald and David McPhail – This is a sentimental story about a young boy who loves to fish and a father who doesn’t.  At least not until he does it with his son.  The two find a way to connect and end up enjoying many fishing trips together and making memories.  I love the warm nature of the story and illustrations in this one and the relatable message that it doesn’t really matter what you’re doing, as long as you’re together.

“Love, Dad and Me” and “Between Dad and Me” by Katie Clemons- Okay, so these aren’t picture books, but they are too good not to share. They are journals designed to be passed between father and son, or father and daughter and they are ingenious! Each page tells you who it is meant for and gives you a prompt on what to write. Perfect for strengthening relationships between fathers and children!
