The Borrowers Collection

The Borrowers Collection by Mary Norton

Did you have a favorite book or series that you loved as a child?  One that brought you so much joy that you cannot wait to read it with your children?  That is “The Borrowers” for me.  I discovered this series when I was a small child and I fell in love.  I read each and every book in the series and adored them all.  Now, as an adult, this book holds a lot of nostalgia for me.  When I read it, a cozy and familiar feeling is what I experience and I feel as though I am visiting old friends.

It is about a family of miniature people who live in the floorboards of an old english house and “borrow” what they need to survive.  There is a general rule that they are to stay away from the ginormous “Human Beans” who inhabit the house, but curious and fun-loving Arietty especially just can’t stay away.  These little books are delightful and full of lovely little adventures that the “borrowers” experience with their creative circumstances.

When I found out that HMH books was coming out with a new edition, I knew I had to check it out.  I was anxious to find a beautiful one that I could share with my children when they are a bit older.  This one surpassed all of my expectations.  It includes the whole series (“The Borrowers”, “The Borrowers Afield”, “The Borrowers Afloat”, “Poor Stainless” and “The Borrowers Avenged”.) which makes it wonderfully thick as well as convenient.   The cover and spine are absolutely bookshelf-worthy and the cover is, in my opinion, perfect.  To top it off, there are black and white illustrations scattered throughout the text.

This edition comes out October 25th and it is one to check out whether you are a long-time Borrowers fan like me, or are looking for some new pleasant stories.
