The Good Little Book

img_0085

The Good Little Book by Kyo Maclear and Marion Arbona

Do you remember the first book that really made you fall in love with books?  As far back as I can remember I have always loved books.  My idea of a perfect time when I was little was gathering a pile of pillows, my favorite stuffed animals, and stacks of picture books in my beloved “Beauty and The Beast” tent for an afternoon of reading.  However, the first book I remember as having really changed me and left a permanent mark was when I read “The Lion the Witch and The Wardrobe” by C.S. Lewis as a child.  I’ll never forget how real Narnia was to me or how much my heart hurt when Aslan was hurt.  After that book there was no going back from a future as a book nerd.

This book, “The Good Little Book” captures that magic.  It is about a little boy who falls in love with a book.  He takes it everywhere and it becomes his friend.  Then, one day something tragic happens, he looses it.  He searches for it everywhere, but try as he might he cannot find it.  He learns to love other books and then one day their paths cross again.  He sees his book being read by another child and almost calls out, but thinks better of it.  He realizes that his book is “living on” by being experienced and loved by other readers.

This book makes my book nerd heart happy.  I love the story and I have to say that I would be completely amiss not to express how much I love the illustrations as well.  They are eye-poppingly beautiful!   The colors are so vivid, the lines are so unique, and I just want to stare and stare at each one.  Seriously though, this is all around a really, really “good little book”.  (Plus that face on the cover, swoon!)
