The Hello Atlas

“The Hello Atlas” by Kenard Pak, Ben Handicott, Wade Davis

This book is a beautiful little taste of so many languages and cultures all around the world.  It is one of those nonfiction books that helps you to feel as if you have taken a little trip without actually leaving your living room.  The focus of this oversize book is to introduce languages from all over the globe and it does a fantastic job of it.

I know  what you may be thinking, a language book targeted for kiddos is a tricky thing because kids won’t know how to read or pronounce the phrases.  Of course, there are english translations for each phrase and it is pretty interesting just to see what the different languages look like, but I see the problem.  This book solves that!  They created a free companion app just for this book that lets children hear phrases from around the world to make this book a more useful and complete experience.  Brilliant huh?!

The illustrations in this book really are noteworthy as well.  Each one shows a child of that culture “in their element” to give you just a tiny glimpse of what their world may look like.  Finally, I love how this book is organized into different regions of the world and that there are atlases to show the geographical locations. This is a beautiful resource that children of so many different ages can enjoy.  I know I enjoy it!
