“This Is Sadie”

sadie

“The days are never long enough for Sadie.  So many things to make and do and be.”

“Sadie” By Sara O’leary and Julie Morstad

Have you ever come across a book that perfectly encapsulates your childhood?  One that really speaks to your heart and reminds you of the days you spent in childhood wonder?  This is that book for me.  When I read it I feel like Sadie and I are kindred spirits.  Like Sadie, I was a book-lvoing, tree-climbing, creative girl with an imagination that was bigger than life who wished she could fly.  I even had a special love for mermaids, foxes, and fairytales just like Sadie.  It reminds me of the days I spent running wild barefoot as a little tom-boy playing in all sorts of make-believe lands with my best friend.  This book is definitely a very special one for me and I can’t wait until my little girl is old enough that I can start sharing it with her.

There really isn’t much plot to this book.  It follows a day in the life of Sadie as it introduces her to the world.  As I mentioned above, she loves books, trees, creating, and imagining all sorts of things.  I think more than anything the value of this book lies in encouraging and inspiring children to take adventures through books and their imagination.  I love how in the book Sadie uses a simple box to pretend she’s on a boat and makes a tent with a blanket.  This sparks ideas in youngsters with what fun a simple object and a little imagination can bring.  The illustrations are also incredible, Julie Morstad is becoming one of my favorite illustrators.  I mean, just take a look at the inside spread photos below.  This is a book that definitely  has a place of honor in our home.
