Valentine’s Day M&M Cookies

When Valentine’s Day rolls around I am all about the hearts. I love heart covered clothing, decor, candies and more. Along with hearts I get so excited about all the pink and red. It is so festive and perfectly fits a holiday centered around love. One of the seasonal items that I look for that employs both hearts and pink and red is the Valentine’s Day M&M’s. They are so darling and of course the perfect thing to make with them is M&M cookies!

To make them even more special I pair them with white chocolate chips. Then, with the milk chocolate from the M&Ms and the white chocolate chips you get a lovely dose of both.

The texture of these cookies is also pure perfection. They are the right level of thickness and have a crispy exterior with a soft interior. When they firm up they are especially ideal for dunking in milk and are sure to bring loads of joy.

My favorite part of baking these cookies (other than eating them of course) is pressing extra M&Ms on the top of the dough balls before they go in the oven. They look so happy and festive and the anticipation is immense. Basically, I adore these cookies!

TIPS:

  • Important: Your cookies will look under-baked when you pull them out of the oven. They aren’t, I promise! You know they are done when they are barely starting to turn a golden brown. They will also have domed tops and appear airy. This is perfect! As you give them 2-4 minutes to finish baking on the baking sheet and as they start to cool the domes will deflate into beautiful, smooth lumps and the cookies will firm up. It’s quite magical.
  • If your cookies come out too flat some common mistakes could be that: the dough was over-mixed, the ingredients were too warm or they were over-baked.
  • If your cookies come out too thick/didn’t spread properly some common mistakes could be that: the ingredients were too cold (shortening should be room temperature), the dough balls were packed too tightly, the baking soda was old, or the flour was packed into the measuring cup instead of lightly scooped.
