Mr. Postmouse’s Rounds

postmouse

“Down the lane, Mrs. Turtle unwraps two pairs of zippy roller skates for her mobile home.”

Mr. Postmouse’s Rounds by Marianne Dubuc

You know how with some books you notice more and more about them every time that you read them?  This is definitely one of those books!  The illustrations in this book are so incredibly clever that they have me smiling and chuckling to myself as I discover new things each time I read it.

This book  isn’t really a story and it has no real plot.  It follows Mr. Postmouse through a day of his package and mail deliveries, starting with him leaving home and ending with him returning home with one final delivery.   The text is sparse and really there only to give a brief explanation of the illustrations and to keep things moving along through Mr. Postmouse’s rounds. The illustrations are definitely the focus and star.  Each stop Mr. Postmouse makes is at the home of a different animal.  And these homes, let me tell ya, they are inventive!  I love all the tiny details from the bats having everything in their house upside down to the occasional nod to fairytale characters lurking around.  I want to know how Marianne came up with all the ideas that she piled into these ingenious houses she created!  This is one definitely worth checking out!
